As we enter another new year, we should have the best start for a successful year. Here’s a quick checklist for your business to make sure your IT systems are up to date and ready for the new year.


 Change your passwords

Have you been putting off changing your passwords. New year = New passwords.  Make sure you change all your passwords. When changing them use complex and long passwords that are hard to guess. It’s always good to use a combination of letters, numbers and other characters for your password. Also review your password policy for your business and create one if you don’t already have one.

 Review your internet connection.

Did you have a frustrating year with slow or unreliable internet connection. Don’t let this get you down in the new year. Review your connection and make sure you shop around or get advise from an expert. Here are some important factors you need to consider.

 Review your Backups and Disaster recovery process.

There are still a lot of businesses out there that don’t have a proper backup process or a disaster recovery procedure. Having a backup plan is vital for your business to avoid any downtime and to keep your business running smoothly. Don’t wait till something happens to you and make sure you address these in the new year. If you already have a plan review it to make sure it’s current and appropriate for your business.

 Review your security policies.

There were a lot of security threats and breaches in 2017. You probably heard a number of stories headlining about ransom-ware such as the Crypto virus.  As a smart business we should learn from these past incidents and make sure security is on top of the to-do list for the new year. Every year malware and hacking costs billions of dollars for businesses around the world and a large number of companies go bankrupt due to these malicious attacks.

 Is it time to upgrade?

Have you been struggling with a slow computer. Perhaps using an outdated application that takes you most of the day to do simple tasks . This is the perfect time to review your hardware and software needs so you can focus on your business more and less battling with IT.
